I can't believe it is December already.   A very fun culture day is about to be had by all!  The semester has flown by.

The Latin I students are starting chapter 10 - verb conjugations and the present tense.  They can do it!!!

The Latin II students are in pronoun land.  Hurray for personal and reflexive pronouns.  We will be watching the chariot race scene from Ben Hur as Cornelia, Sextus, Marcus and Eucleides have finally found their way to the Circus Maximus!

The Latin III students have very little grammar to go.  They are masters at the imperfect and pluperfect subjunctives.  The Baths chapter has been way too much fun.  Sextus is about to have his one shining moment.

The AP students have finished all 9,000 words of Caesar and are proceeding with The Aeneid by Virgil.  What a ton of translating has been done!  Congratulations.

We have 29 people on the trip to Italy and France next May.  How wonderful!

IWhat a joy for me to have so many students this year and to have so much fun. Each day is full of laughter and light bulb moments.

Blessings for the holiday season of 2012 and for the new 2013.

Extra credit for the first to post how to say "Happy New Year" correctly in Latin!

Well here we are in the second week of a brand new school year.

All 42 (!) Latin I students are about ready to take their chapter 1 assessments.  They are going for pie day and studying hard.  We practice vocabulary every day.

The 26 Latin II students are mastering the dative case in one of our longest chapters - 22.

The 10 Latin III students are working on deponent verbs and finalizing the design of the new Latin Club t-shirt.  Wait until you see it!

The 1 AP Latin student (first time ever) is fast and furiously translating sections of Caesar's De Bello Gallico.  This class is quite intensive with about 18000 words to translate between now and the AP test on May 9th, 2013.

We already had Pompeii day and focused on a map of Pompeii and identifying 12 different buildings/mosaics.  Of course, we had to have popcorn.

Don't forget to let me know if you are interested in our trip next year to Italy, France and Monaco.  Deposits are due by October 31st.

Please post your extra credit as a comment to this blog.  I count up the points at the end of the semester.  Remember - don't get behind and let me know if you need anything.  Latin students are absolutely the best!

April

Who can believe that April is half gone already!  This weekend I will be treating my senior adroom to an adventure to celebrate their graduation.

Next weekend is prom impossible.  Please plan to stop by anytime after 6.  Since I can't possible make all the open houses, this is my way of acknowledging the seniors and seeing them all dressed up.  If any underclassmen want to help that day and be sous chefs, just let me know.  We have lots of fun!

Latin I is learning the perfect tense.  This unit if sull of vocabulary and translating!

The Latin II students are hanging in there with positive, comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs.  Get ready to calculate dates in Latin and then deponent verbs to finish out the year.

Latin III students are about to review impersonal verb constructions and have mastered the subjunctive mood with its sequence of tenses!  All right!

Latin IV students are working on translating part of De Bello Gallico from Caesar.  Those Druids certainly were something.

As we prepare for semester tests, LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANYTHING.  I want to make sure everyone does their absolute best and gets a fantastic grade.  Latin students always rise to the ocassion!

March 2012

My how time as flown.  I watched the Latin III students translate 2 entire passages today during class.  They laughed and had such fun and were so productive.  I hope they remember their Latin class when they move on to bigger and better things.

We are looking forward to having AP Latin next year with Adam and a wonderful crew of new students.  More are always welcome.

We will soon be taking deposits for our Italy/Monaco/France tour in May 2013.  If you are interested, please let me know to include you on the e-mail list.

As our time together winds down, please let me know if you need any help.  We all need to finish strong.  Those of you who will be here next year, PLEASE keep me laughing and focused on all the good things to come.

You are all wonderful.

Here we are in November already!  October just flew by.  The Latin I students are getting ready for the chapter7  tests followed by their very first unit test.

The Latin II students are learning the 4th and 5th declensions - no more after that!

The Latin III students have finally gotten to the chapter on the subjunctive mood - fun times for all.

Mike and Johanna are translating all about Julius Caesar.

We had so much fun at the corn maze and will have movie night on November 4th.  Of course, we will watch A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum.

Thanks to Mitchell for bringing in tissues for extra credit.  I appreciate it.

Don't forget to post your extra credit to the blog!  Grades look very good and we want to keep them there.

October 2011

I can't believe it is already October!  You all are working very hard and the progress is amazing!  The Latin Club t-shirts are here and the World Language picnic was so much fun.

We will be going to the Corn Maize in October and having even more fun.

The Latin I students are learning infinitives and noun/adjective agreement.  As usual, the touchdown day was a hit.  My spiral wasn't half bad this year.

The Latin II students are finishing up a unit and have learned all 6 tenses.  Congratulations!  The Cornelius family is in Rome and starting new and wonderful adventures there.

The Latin III students finally made it through present participles and are learning a new infinitive tense!  They are working hard and the translations are getting longer and longer.

Our guest speaker at the end of September was awesome!  Learn those word roots and see what happens.

Don't forget - Quarterly Projects are due on October 17th!!!!  E-mail sentences to me by Friday, October 14th for a guaranteed review.  Check out the website for requirements:

Welcome to September. All the classes are making wonderful progress.

The Latin I class is about to meet Marcus and Sextus. The Latin II class has the Dative case mastered and is moving onto more verb tenses. The Latin III class has memorized cardinal, ordinal and Roman numbers. The Latin IVs are translating about Constantine.

I wonder what and when the culture day will be in September!

Keep up the good work.

I have requested information about a possible 2013 tour to Italy, Monaco and Nice, France. Stay tuned for more details and save up. The trips are just fantastic experiences and all are welcome to come.

Welcome to Latin class! I am looking forward to the 2011-2012 school year with the best students ever. Latin will help you in all of your other classes, this year and future years. We will learn the language of course, but then also have the opportunity to learn about culture, religion, philosophy, government, history, oratory, rhetoric, astronomy, and many other topics - even military strategy. Your vocabulary will increase and your scores on standardized tests will be phenomenal.

If you know of anyone else you might be interested in the class, please let them know we have openings! It would great to have a few more students.

Let me know if I can help you with anything. Getting behind in class usually isn't a good thing!

Get ready for our first culture day!
